In The Holy Spirit and Reality, Watchman Nee writes that it is necessary for the believer to advance from merely external faith practices to a genuine spiritual life that focuses on knowing and experiencing the Spirit. The work of the Spirit consists of revealing Himself to us and disciplining us, so as to lead us to a fuller understanding of reality. The revelation of the Holy Spirit shows us the realities of the spiritual world, while disciplining us to better experience these realities.
