Carroll Osborn
Dr. Carroll D. Osburn holds a B.A., M.Th. and M.A. from Harding University and Graduate School of Religion, a D.Div. from Vanderbilt University, and a Ph.D. from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. After teaching in the graduate school at Harding and chairing the Department of Religious Studies at Pepperdine University, he accepted the position of Charmichael-Walling Distinguished Professor of New Testament at Abeline Christian University, which he held with distinction for 17 years.
In 2004, Dr. Osburn took early retirement as a university professor and began work with the Caris Foundation. Caris is a non-profit organization established to aid impoverished people by providing basic needs such as medical, housing, nutrition, and welfare. In doing so, the foundation collaborates with existing local entities that understand their community and can implement solutions that are culturally relevant and sustainable.
An internationally respected biblical scholar, Osburn continues as co-editor of the Greek New Testament project at the University of Muenster, Germany. Equally at home in Texas or primitive jungle huts, he volunteered for three decades as a Greek translation consultant to Bible translators working among pre-literate people in Guatemala, the headwaters of the Amazon, and Native American reservations. He assisted in resolving difficult linguistic and cultural problems encountered in translating the biblical text into tribal languages. He also developed a keen sensitivity to humanitarian needs in Third World situations.
