Aaron Sheehan-Dean is Department Chair and Fred C. Frey Professor of History at Louisiana State University. He is the author of the award-winning The Calculus of Violence: How Americans Fought the Civil War (2018) and Why Confederates Fought: Family and Nation in Civil War Virginia (2007) and thecoauthor of American Horizons: U.S. History in a Global Context, Third Edition (OUP, 2017).
