The Scarlet Thread: A Journey to Encounter Jesus in the Old Testament

The Scarlet Thread is both an inspirational devotion book and a guided Bible study.

From direct references to Jesus, to subtle pictures of Him found in the history of the Jewish people, to the warnings and promises of the prophets, the Old Testament's overarching message is "God will provide the way to restore the relationship that was broken by sin." The Scarlet Thread takes a systematic look into the books of the Old Testament to verify that each one, in some way, has a part in that overall message. It examines verses and passages that directly refer to the Anointed One who will come and to those that in some way bring to mind an image of Jesus, the Messiah.

The Scarlet Thread contains nine chapters. The verses and passages included in the study are grouped together based on the similarities of subject. The topics include the Pre-incarnate Christ, Pictures of Christ in the Lives of Bible People, Pictures of Christ in Specific Objects, Pictures of Christ in His Titles, Prophecies of Jesus' Birth and Ministry, Prophecies of Jesus' Death and Resurrection, Additional Prophetic Passages, Concepts Relating to Jesus or His Mission, and Potpourri of Other Topics.

The Scarlet Thread also suggests several Bible study ideas and even provides two complete Bible Study Guides. A Look at Jesus in the Old Testament and Encountering Jesus in the Old Testament both reference the content in The Scarlet Thread to guide participants through a personal Bible Study. The difference between the two is in the depth of study that the group desires.
