The Long Ride Home

In The Long Ride Home by Susan R. Lawrence, it's 1929 and Bert Davidson and his little sister Emma are orphans on their way from New York City to Iowa in search for prospective families. Little Emma gets chosen right away and Bert finds himself separated from his sister and faced with a new reality of living on a working farm. Will Bert find a home in Iowa or will he be faced with a long train ride back to NYC? Recommended for ages 9 to 12 years.
