The How and Why of Love: An Introduction to Evangelical Ethics

Many books on ethics have been written but few are solidly evangelical. An evangelical approach begins with the conviction that the Bible is the Word of the one and true living God. Even more rare, however, is an evangelical approach that develops its ethic from the entirety of scripture rather than one part, such as the Ten Commandments or the Sermon on the Mount. If the Bible is to be understood as a whole unit, so also should its ethic be based.

Michael Hill takes this very approach in his introduction to ethics, The How and Why of Love. Hill is primarily concerned in this book with method rather than content, but he does use examples from within personal ethics to apply his fresh evangelical perspective. In so doing, he provides us not just with solutions to difficult cases, but with an ethical framework we can bring to every aspect of our lives.
