The Colosseum

"The authors point out that the Colosseum was constructed for the enjoyment of murder. They explain the role of that famous monument in Roman history and politics---a scene of animals sent to fight each other, public executions, and gladiators. A fascinating account for the fan of European history,"---Booklist. 224 pages, softcover. Harvard University.
