¿Una Biblia más? Como decía Luis Alonso Schökel en la primera edición de la Biblia del Peregrino, hay que alegrarse de que esta nueva edición no viene a llenar un vacío. Gracias al trabajo constante que se viene realizando tanto en el mundo católico como en las demás confesiones cristianas, la Palabra escrita de Dios está continuamente siendo actualizada, tanto en traducciones cada vez más fidedignas al hebreo y griego originales como en la elaboración de comentarios que conecten el texto con las necesidades y aspiraciones concretas del hombre y de la mujer de hoy, sean creyentes o no creyentes.

Con el mismo deseo de seguir en ese camino de mejora continua de la traducción y de acercarnos a la situación concreta de los destinatarios, presentamos al lector latinoamericano esta nueva edición de la Biblia del Peregrino, ahora titulada: La Biblia de Nuestro Pueblo—Biblia del Peregrino América Latina.

Y hemos dado un paso más. Al mismo tiempo que la traducción de los textos originales se ha acomodado al español latinoamericano, adoptando sus giros y modismos más peculiares, se ha prestado una particular atención al texto mismo, teniendo en cuenta los últimos avances en los estudios bíblicos exegéticos, afinando la traducción allí donde se ha visto necesario. Esta labor ha sido llevada a cabo por un equipo internacional de estudiosos de la Biblia.

La Biblia de Nuestro Pueblo contiene, además, otro elemento de novedad: son los comentarios que se añaden al texto. A diferencia de otros comentarios, dirigidos a un público especializado o que se detienen solamente en pasajes importantes del texto bíblico, nuestros comentarios se han hecho pensando en la mayoría de los creyentes y con la intención concreta de acercar a la comprensión del lector el sentido de cada libro en su totalidad, el contexto en que fueron escritos, el hilo narrativo y el mensaje que el autor quiere transmitir. Los comentarios son largos o cortos según lo requiera la dificultad de comprensión de la Palabra de Dios, que aunque viva y actual, fue escrita hace dos mil años.

Con todo, citando las mismas palabras de Alonso Schökel, el momento mejor del comentario es cuado el lector lo deja en la parte inferior de la página para entenderse a solas con el texto. Es la hora de la verdad y de la vida.

One more Bible? As Luis Alonso Schokel said in the first of edition of the Biblia del Peregrino, we should be happy that this new edition is not filling up a gap. Thanks to the constant work that has been realized in the Catholic world as well as other Christian denominations, the written Word of God is continually being actualized, in the faithful translations of the original Hebrew and Greek as well as in the commentaries that connect the text to the needs and concrete hopes of the people of today, be they believers or non-believers.

With the same wish to continue in this path of making a continual translation that is better and to approach the concrete situations of the intended readers, we present this new Latin-American edition of La Biblia del Peregrino now titled: La Biblia de Nuestro Pueblo 'Biblia del Peregrino Amarica Latina.

And we have taken an additional step. At the same that the translation from the original texts are made, the Latin-American Spanish has been used, adopting its manners and peculiar expressions, attention has been paid to the text itself, keeping in mind the latest advances in biblical studies exegesis, fine-tuning the translation where it seemed necessary. This work has been accomplished with an international group of Bible scholars.

La Biblia de Nuestro Pueblo also contains another new element: the commentaries added along with the text. Compared to other commentaries directed to a specialized public or that examines only important passages of the biblical text, our commentaries have been made keeping in mind the majority of believers and the concrete desire to allow the reader to grasp the sense of each book in its totality, the context in which they were written, the narrative thread and the message that the author intended to convey. The commentaries are short or long depending on the difficulty of comprehension of the Word of God, which although is alive and actual, was written two thousand years ago.

All in all, citing the words of Alonso Schokel, the best moment of the commentary is when the reader abandons it in the inferior part of the page to engage alone the actual text. It is the time of truth and life.
