The year 1847 brings about an increase is spiritual interest in Susanna’s Amish community when her cousin Noah begins preaching while under trances. He is not a minister however gives long sermons that attract attention. She watches out for him and keeps him safe during the trances. The Bishop pressures Susanna’s boyfriend Adam not to support this new interest because it threatens their faith. Now she and Adam are on opposite sides of the controversy hoping their love is strong enough to pull them through.
