This book uses considerable primary material to examine movements of spirituality found within evangelical Protestantism between the First and Second World Wars. It analyses the way in which different patterns of devotion led to tensions and divisions between those holding a common commitment to the Bible, the cross of Christ, conversion and active Christian service.
Ian Randall holds an MA in Economics and History from the University of Aberdeen. He trained as a pastor at Regent's Park College, Oxford and completed an MPhil through London Bible College on the subject of the career of F. B. Meyer. He pastored several churches before joining the staff of Spurgeon's College, London, as Tutor in Church History in 1992. Here, he added Spirituality to his teaching duties and became college chaplain. He completed his PhD in 1997 focusing on the spirituality of English evangelicalism between the First and Second World Wars. Ian was appointed as Director of Baptist and Anabaptist Studies at the International Baptist Theological Seminary, Prague, in 1999, and in 2001 he was made a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
