The Primary Arts of Language: Reading package from the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) includes three resources: two student books and one loose-leaf reader package (Readers 1, 2, 3, 4). This set is designed to be used with the Primary Arts of Language: Reading Complete Package or Primary Arts of Language: Reading Teacher's Manual (both of which are not-included and are s old-separately). The work pages in the student books include a variety of activities including cut-and-paste, matching, and write-in exercises; for example, students might be asked to mark "Magic-e" words, mark vowels, and underline helpers in a sentence.
The Primary Arts of Language: Reading teaches phonics and whole words through poetry and letter stories. It is based on the "Blended Sound-Sigh Program of Learning" by Anna Ingham and was adapted for home educators by Jill Pike. Daily games played during "Activity Time" reinforce the phonetic concepts so that a student can know them completely. Please note that the reading program should be used concurrently with the Primary Arts of Language: Writing program, which includes the letter introduction through printing practice.
