The Well-Ordered Language curriculum from Classical Academic Press presents the study of language in a way that's designed to appeal to a child's inborn curiosity and desire to collect and order. Teachers and students will use language skills--reading, writing, speaking, and listening--along with physical movement, songs, and chants, to engage with the grammatical concepts in each lesson.
Well-Ordered Language 3A covers one semester; it is the first half of the third year in the series.
Students will be able to identify the parts of a sentence and understand how words behave in a sentence. As students see the components of language, they will be able to apply their knowledge by expressing their thoughts clearly and accurately. Lessons feature clear, easy-to-understand chapters that explain the concepts directly to the student plus exercise pages to practice newly-learned concepts. Well-Ordered Language Level 3A will introduce students to:
Sentence diagramming Four kinds of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamatory), principal elements, adjectives & adverbs Predicate verbs, predicate nominatives & predicate adjectives Prepositional phrases Personal pronouns Sensory linking verbs Indirect objects Interrogative pronouns Relative (adjectival) clauses
It's recommended the Well-Ordered Language series is started from the beginning; if students are comfortable with the eight parts of speech; compound elements; su bject/object/possessive/interrogative/relative pronouns; compound sentences; and relative clauses, they should be prepared for Level 3A. Three scheduling options are included for 5, 4, and 3-times per week, with each period lasting 30-40 minutes.
Grades 5-6. 241 pages, softcover. One-semester.
