Reading Literary Text: Common Core Mastery, Grade 1

Help first-grade students build strong literary analysis skills! Each of the 8 units provides a literary text in a minibook format, covering a variety of fiction genres such as folk tale, poetry, fable, and realistic fiction. Each unit opens with a unit page that provides an overview of the lesson and teacher pages that feature step-by-step instruction.

Student pages contain the reading passage and follow-up activities that include:

A vocabulary activity: Picture dictionary with content words and a "Words to Know" list Reading comprehension activities: "I Read Closely," "I Read and Understand," and "I Tell the Story" An oral close reading activity with questions to help guide students in a discussion A genre activity: such as "I Read a Fable" A writing activity: "I Can Write"
