Reading Informational Text Grades 6 & Up

Common Core Mastery: Reading Informational Text Grade 6 will help students improve their close reading of content-area texts. A teacher resource page features objectives and a suggested lesson schedule with step-by-step instruction.

The informational texts cover grade-level content-area topics (including science, social studies, biography and "how-to" articles) and a range of nonfiction text structures, such as compare and contrast, main idea and details, and cause and effect.

Each of the 10 units presents a grade-appropriate nonfiction article and supporting activities that are easy to scaffold, which include the following:

The unit culminates in a text-based writing assignment that can be used as an informal assessment.

Teacher supports include CCSS correlations for each unit, downloadable home-school connection activities and projects to extend learning at home, and a guided reading level to help identify appropriate texts for students.
